. the house could take up the deal tomorrow. taxpayers would have felt the impact of the fiscal cliff immediately. if the deal passes, the average american family would avoid a tax increase of more than $3,400. a white house official said this is a compromise, so we don't love it but it's the right thing to do for the economy. back to you. >> and the fiscal cliff isn't the only financial crisis the nation could be facing. the u.s. has hit the debt ceiling. the government hit more than $16 trillion borrowing limit last night. that means the treasury department can only shift assets around for another six to eight weeks or the government can no longer pay its bills. >>> doctors in new york giving new details about the condition of secretary of state hillary clinton. she's in the hospital being treated for a blood clot that formed in her brain. the latest problem in a month of health troubles. abc's martha raddatz has more. >> reporter: the normally globe trotting secretary of state is in a hospital room, monitored closely and being given blood thinners to break up the clot. family members, including daughter chelsea, have been at her side. the clot was discovered on an mri on sunday. a statement from her doctors saying the scan revealed a clot in the vein is that situated in the space b

obama and the top lawmakers meet today at the white house on the fiscal cliff. any compromise is expected to include an extension of the middle class tax cuts with increased rates at upper incomes. spending cuts could also be canceled. ahead of those talks, plenty of blame is being spread around already. >> john boehner seems to care more about keeping his speakership than keeping the nation on firm financial footing. >> hopefully there's time for an agreement of some kind. >> speaker john boehner called the house back into session for a highly unusual sunday evening session just in case. >>> an unexpected consequence of the fiscal cliff stalemate could mean sticker shock at your grocery store. milk prices could soon spike to $8 a gallon. wow. congress has been so bogged down with the fiscal cliff, the farm bill is still on the table. if congress does not pass it, dairy subsidies would immediately end on january 1, and those subsidies have been keeping milk prices low for 63 years. >>> the price of curbside parking in chicago is going up january 1. parking meters will charge $6.5

congress return to washington to address the fiscal cliff. talks will take place behind closed doors. no public negotiations set. you have the debt and the fiscal cliff. it's not looking too good right now when it comes to the u.s. economy. >> geithner told congressional leaders that his department is using some accounting measures basically a fancy way of saying they're going to try to free up some cash to hold off, temporarily, this fiscal cliff. but it's still not looking good. >> i don't know about you at home, but kicking the can down the road, this has been happening over and over again. somebody has to make some decisions here. >> it's like in this business, they give you a deadline and you have to hit the deadline. there's no coming in and saying take another ten minutes. it don't work that way in real life. there are americans out there saying, get off your couches, get back to washington, and get the deal done. >> sometimes it's not pretty you when you have to rush, but, hey, get it done. >>> still on the economy now, new signs of a turn around in the real estate market. for the first time since 2006, average housing prices may end the year on an upward trend. good news there

two. it's not as dire as the whole fiscal cliff situation, but there are a lot of people upset at the game show "wheel of fortune." >> it has to do with a contestant who guessed the right word but lost because of the way she said the word because of her accent. here's abc's john muller. >> reporter: she was on a roll, cruising her way towards thousands on "wheel of fortune. >> n. >> three ns. >> reporter: renee can taste victory. she's got the winning answer. >> i would like to solve. seven swans a swimming. >> reporter: or so she thought. pronouncing swimming swimmin'. >> yeah. >> that's how i speak, you know, being from florida. i had asked for the g, so i knew it was there. >> reporter: judges said it was spoken in vernacular. the twitter lit up with outrage.
